Introducing Myself

Hello!

My name is Kaitlin Roberts but I most commonly go by Katie. I am a psychology major at the University of Oklahoma and I am finishing up my last semester of school this fall. I live in the Bay Area in California (Livermore to be exact) when I am not in Norman for school. Getting to experience living in a new place has been very exciting for me but I will always be a Bay Area girl. There is no shortage of fun activities to do and the Bay has such a large variety to choose from. My particular favorites would be hiking, camping/backpacking, paddle boarding, and trying all of the new places to eat that are constantly popping up.

When I am home I am most likely to be found wherever my dog is. I adopted a white German Shepard/Japanese Akita mix when she was 4 years old and now she is 8. I had always wanted a dog growing up but the timing was never right. Finally, around 4 years ago we were able to do it and I went searching the shelters immediately. After about a month of searching, I found my girl and named her Luna.  She is a very sweet and gentle dog and people who meet her seem to fall in love easily. Most people do not get to witness the large amount of attitude that she has but I find it all the more endearing anyway.

Around the same time that I adopted Luna, my best friend adopted a small Border Collie puppy she named Brody. They hit it off right away and became best buddies and now we take them hiking, camping, and to the dog park together all the time.

Other than obsessing over my dog and pretty much every dog I meet, I like to spend a lot of time traveling and exploring California. Most of the time I can be found at Disneyland or Yosemite as seen in my favorite places post. I am not the type of person to sit around at home very often and am constantly on the move. Getting to explore new places, see something new, and meet new people is always my main goal when I go out. This is something I hope to continue to do once I am finished with school. I can't imagine myself living in one place for too long and hope to live all over the world and experience new cultures someday (and maybe visit all of the different Disney parks while I'm at it).

  1. Hi Katie! Luna is such a pretty dog! I have never seen a mix between and German Shepard and a Japanses Akita before. I also think that it is great that you got your dog from the shelter. Shelter pups have so much to offer, and people immediately falling in love with Luna proves that! California seems like a really fun place to live. Like you mentioned, there is so much to do! I am extremely jealous that you get to go to Disneyland whenever you please! Thank you for sharing!

  2. Hi Katie! I also really love hiking and camping, even though Oklahoma does not really seem to be the best place to do it! California most definitely is though, I really need to go out there and hike at some point. Luna seems absolutely adorable! I am hoping to be able to adopt from a shelter at some point, but college does not seem to be the easiest time to be a new dog owner. I like the aspiration to go to all the different Disney Parks, that sounds like a great bucket list item! I hope you manage to do so in the near future.

  3. Hi Katie! I an graduating in December too. How exciting! Luna is so sweet! I actually have two German Shepherds, a girl and a boy. The girl is named Athena and she is three years old. We rescued her from a shelter after tornados hit my hometown two years ago. The boy is named Sampson and he is just one year old. Traveling is one of my favorite things to do and like you, I hope to travel all over the world one day.

  4. Hello Katie,
It is very cool how you seem to be the kind of person who likes to do things and get outside. I love to do things like this because all my friends like to stay inside and sit in their buts all day. I also love your fascination with Disney. Though I have never been to a Disney park in California , but one of my favorite places I have visited was Epcot. I am also a dog lover just like you. It was good meeting you and I hope to here more from you through the semester.

  5. I was wondering just where you lived in the Bay area, Katie: GO, EAST BAY! And your Luna is a beautiful dog... plus what a great name! Maybe Luna can make an appearance in some folktale you retell for this class, with or without the moon. The two dog-buddies look adorable together too. Are you think about doing a California-related Storybook for the class? There's a unit in the UnTextbook with some Native legends about California, like this one about El Capitan in Yosemite: Legend of Tu-Tok-A-Nu'-La ... of course a monolith practically commands people to come up with stories about it! :-)

  6. Hi Katie! Your dog is absolutely adorable and I love how well Luna goes with your blog theme (even if it's unintentional c:) I've always wanted to visit the Bay Area! I'm from California but was living in Seal Beach when I did reside there. We moved here when I was younger so I didn't have the opportunity to explore much of California outside of going places with my parents. We have tons of family still in Cali though so hopefully I'll get a chance to go back and visit and do some exploring c:

  8. Hey Kaitlin, my name is Devin and I also attend the University of Oklahoma here! I see you’re into paddle boarding which is cool because I actually just paddle boarded for my first time this last summer down in Florida. It took me quite a while to learn how to stand up and move around but after awhile I got it down and I really enjoyed it! Also I love your dogs, they are super adorable! Hope your last semester is going great!

  9. Hi, Kaitlin! I'm not going to lie, my first response to your introduction post was just "DOGS DOGS DOGS!!!!" when I saw the pictures of all the dogs. I am a huge animal person, and dogs are my absolute favorite things in the world! Yours are very cute, by the way! I have never tried paddle boarding before but it does sound like fun! I live in Florida so I should definitely give that a try before I move back to Oklahoma. I hope you have a great semester!

  10. Hi Katie! The pictures of your dog Luna are so adorable! I’ve never seen a German Shephard/ Akita mix before, but now I’m in love! I also love to paddleboard, my friends and I would always try to see how many people we could balance on one board. I think it’s so cool that you are from California. I’ve always wanted to go there.

  11. Hi Katie!

What a coincidence, we're both seniors! Though, this is not my last semester personally. I've got one more after. Your dogs are beautiful by the way. I have two dogs and three cats in my home. One of the dogs is a black lab mix named Tinkerbell who is sweet as can be but she's a little crazy. Funny story, we had her groomed for the summer when it was really hot, but the fur on her behind isn't growing back normally! The vet said it's nothing to worry about, but just thought I'd share a funny store about one of my puppers!

  12. Hi Katie! Luna is beautiful!! I bet she is a sweetheart. My roommate two years ago, and one of my close friends, is from the Bay area in California! She loves it and is always traveling around. I really enjoy hiking and camping as well. My family usually goes to Colorado and while I do like snow skiing more, we cross country ski, which is kind of similar to hiking—a good workout. We do like to go up in the summer to hike the same trails that we ski on. It’s fun to see the different landscapes.

  13. Hi, Katie! I love your sense of adventure! Having living in Norman for most of my college career, I am a senior as well, I am quite envious of the opportunities you've had to escape and explore. I am from Dallas, so I miss living in a city but have always wanted to live somewhere that has more activities outdoors. I strong urge you to get out and go connect with other cultures, and to definitely go see all the Disney parks! Sounds like you have a lot of exciting stuff ahead, good luck with all of it and congrats on almost graduating!

  14. Hey Katie, I know a couple people that are from California but not per say the Bay area and they love living there mainly because of the kinds of people you meet and the weather. Congrats to your last semester I know you worked very hard throughout your time at OU and are excited to finally get your degree. I also like how you are open to trying new places to eat I am just like that as well. I want to wish you the best of luck in your future endeavors!

  15. Hi Katie!
I think it is so cool you are from California! I have been to several different areas in California and I am always looking to go back and visit other places! I love that you adopted your dog from a shelter! I did the same 2 years ago and it was the best decision! I wish my best friend had a dog so that our dogs could be best friends! I think Luna and Brody being best friends is about the cutest thing ever!

  16. Hi Katie! Wow, I bet being in Oklahoma, coming from California is really different! What made you decide to pick OU when you live in CA? Love your dog and I also love that you and your friend adopted dogs from shelters. I wish more people would pick shelter animals when searching for pets. I think it would be really cool to travel and see all the Disney parks! I've never been to any of the Disney parks, but Disney and Universal Studios are definitely on my bucket list! Nice to meet you!

  17. Hi Katie! I have a dog too! He's a little white chihuahua named Elliot lol. In my family of four, each of us actually has a dog of our own. My family lives in town though. So I get to visit them weekly. I imagine that being from California means you only see your family on Holidays. However, I'm sure growing up in California was much more exciting than being raised in Norman lol.

  18. Nice to meet you Katie!
That is very cool you are from Bay Area California! I've heard it talked about but have never been. For future reference, any cool spots you would recommend visiting there? Also, what made you decide to come to Oklahoma for college? I'm sure its quite different than Cali! By the way your dog is so cute!

  19. Hi Katie,
Luna is super cute and photogenic, and I think it's great that you decided to adopt her from a shelter. It's also really cool how you've been able to travel to so many places and that you are wanting to explore new places in the future. I hope that the last few weeks of your (final?) semester go well and that you are able to continue exploring new places after you graduate!
